Hormones
So what starts all these changes? You know the changes are going to happen, but what really makes them start in the first place. Well, it's really hormones. And hormones start in the brain, a place called the pituitary gland. Everybody's got hormones. They're kind of like this invisible chemical that moves through the body and sends signals out to tell the body to change. These are two of the hormones that we'll be learning about. Another thing that happens during puberty is that people grow taller. Usually girls grow taller first. And sometimes, people grow a lot taller all of a sudden. You know, maybe one summer you grow a few inches or maybe your feet all of a sudden get really big. That can make you feel a little bit clumsy. It's perfectly normal to happen during puberty.
